Week 3 Technologies

This week in class we explored the various technological tools available to teachers to aid in the education process. I found it interesting how directly technology can coordinate with various lessons and how vitally important it is that the children of today need to learn the various technologies available to them. From using a thermometer to a microscope, a whole new world of more accurate measurements may be explored. I found the TPCK section of the lesson somewhat confusing but I fully support the notion that technology should be used in the classroom. Therefore, an instructor must understand how to use it, how to teach it, and how to incorporate such items within a lesson to enhance it. It is necessary for teachers to have this knowledge because the world in which we live is rapidly expanding and the necessity to compete in such a world requires extensive knowledge as to work the various technologies available. In order for students to be successful in future endeavors, they must have been introduced to these tools early on in life, especially within the elementary school setting.

RSS and Web 2.0

In his week's technology session, I learned how to request information from other sites to be sent to my own personal Blog account, otherwise known as RSS. Furthermore, we were instructed in how to use such accounts as Goodreads and Delicious in order to further our resources as teachers. I found these particularly interesting because they will help me be able to quickly access information to enhance my lessons. The Goodreads account in particular provides and excellent resource for my students to expand their literature experiences and hopefully broaden their devotion to reading.

My Technology Experience

I have been introduced and frequently used the various facets of Microsoft Office and I am familiar with emails and university websites. Furthermore, I have had experience with such tools as thumbdrives, ipod applications, and social networks such as Facebook.
